Philosphy of Giving

In a country where poverty is everywhere, there is another thing that one sees a lot. A bumper sticker that reads:

"Givers Never Lack"

It is a testament to the spirit of the Nigerian people. When you arrive in a village, people with far less than you will bring out their best yams and chickens as gifts for you. If you would like to donate to the Children of Rural Africa, please contact us. We will make sure that every penny of your donation will go directly to the children and schools. Any amount will go a long way!

Our philosophy of giving is based on the old adage:

"Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime."

We take this to mean that in most cases, simply giving handouts to people is not a sustainable enterprise. We believe that giving is a form of contract in which the receiver has an obligation to account for what was done with the donation, that they leverage the donation toward a sustainable enterprise that benefits either self, community or both, in the hopes that the receiver of the donation will soon be better able to give of his or her own wealth to the larger community. We use donations to build infrastructure and capacity in villages and schools so that they may better help themselves to prepare for a sustainable future.
