International Publication features success of Local Rotary Club

As friends of Groton Rotary I wanted to let you know some great news as all of you helped with the project. Starting in Jan. 2009 and by the spring of 2010 we raised enough money to pay for and install a water well in Nigeria. This was accomplished with your help by selling the "Waterfalls of the Finger Lakes" Calendars. Because of this successful project our club is featured in this month’s issue of The Rotarian Magazine which goes out in various forms to Rotarians around the world. We are featured in a section called "The World Round Up" where only 8 projects are featured in different parts of the world, ours the only one in Africa.

“The 12,212 residents of the Ipong-Obudu community, made up of six farming villages, faced a severe water shortage after the system they’d been using – a cement-lined trench that carried water from a clean source – collapsed. Schoolchildren began trekking hours each day to help collect clean water. Last year, the Rotary clubs of Endicott and Groton, NY., USA, worked with the nonprofit group "Children of Rural Africa" to drill a well. The Groton club is continuing to raise money for clean water projects through the sale of a calendar featuring waterfall photos. The photographer, Dewey Neild, is a member of the Rotary "Sunrise" Club of Ithaca, NY.”

This is pretty prestigious for a club of our size to be selected. I really want to express my gratitude to you for your help in this great water project!

Again, thanks to friends like you who care this was made possible!
