The Health Awreness program is intended to provide education to children and adults on health related issues.
The program will focus on therapeutic support skills for HIV/AIDS and other preventable diseases such as leprosy, tuberculosis, malaria, typhoid, cholera and hepatitis; giving voice to children affected by AIDS; guardianship and social integration; as well as broad-based community response.
The program will liaise the community with the school by enlisting adult education and training on preventive health methods for children.
Recent Progress
In February 2010, CORAfrica, in collaboration with the Cross River State Action Committee on AIDS (CRS SACA) initiated a community-based Education Program for behavior change on HIV/AIDS in the villages of Ipong-Obudu LGA and Abu-Boki LGA.
Advocacy visits and surveys were carried out to community gate keepers to identify issues related to the spread of HIV/AIDS. The Surveys revealed the pitiful stage of vulnerable children and orphans in these communities and data was also generated on the number of widows.
Factors that have produced widows include diseases such as Malaria and TB, which account to over 75% of the deaths.
